Dr Panos Kyriakopoulos attended our Early Career Engaged Scholarship Conference last year and was successful in winning a six-month mentorship with International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
In this blog, Panos shares his thoughts on the conference and how it left a lasting impact on him, influenced his work, inspired new directions and broadened his horizons!
Growing as a Research and Innovation Professional
One of the standout aspects of the conference was the exposure to cutting-edge research. Listening to keynote speeches and presentations sparked fresh ideas and challenged me to think more critically and creatively about my own projects. Each session offered actionable insights that I’ve already begun integrating into my research approach, expanding my perspectives.
A Shift Towards Interdisciplinary Collaboration
One major takeaway was the power of interdisciplinary work. Seeing the impact of diverse perspectives on innovation inspired me to broaden my network and seek out collaborations beyond my own field. Since the conference, I’ve started reaching out to colleagues in other areas, exploring opportunities for joint research papers and collaborative projects. This shift toward interdisciplinary work feels promising and, I believe, will lead to more impactful research outcomes.
Expanding My Network and Building New Connections
The conference provided an invaluable chance to connect with researchers and academic staff from leading institutions. Through structured networking sessions, I developed meaningful connections with researchers who share a passion for advancing knowledge. We exchanged ideas on unexplored research gaps and potential projects, and I’m excited about the collaborative opportunities these new relationships may bring.
Winning the Engaged Scholarship Award
Winning the Engaged Scholarship Award was a true highlight and an incredible honour. This recognition validated my work and boosted my confidence, while also raising my visibility in the field. As part of the award, I participated in a six-month mentorship program with Dr. Deema Refai aimed at developing a piece for the Fresh Perspectives Research Notes section. This contribution was neither obligatory nor guaranteed and followed journal’s review and publication guidelines. My paper, “The ‘Hearts and Lungs’ of a Booming Rural Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: Re-conceptualising Science Parks in Emerging Markets,” was finally accepted for publication in the Fresh Perspectives Notes section of The International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The experience was rigorous but immensely rewarding, and I’m thrilled that my article is now published. It serves as an exploration of bridging the gap between academic research and practical application, allowing me to share my unique approaches and hopefully inspire others committed to impactful scholarship.
Why You Should Consider Attending
I can’t recommend this conference highly enough for anyone looking to expand their research horizons. The benefits are substantial: gaining insight into the latest trends, building a network of experts, and showcasing your work in a supportive, collaborative environment. This conference fosters creativity and innovation, providing a fantastic platform for both personal and professional growth.
Key Takeaways: Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Innovation, and Openness to New Ideas
My biggest lessons from the conference were the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, staying updated on emerging trends in innovation, and being open to new ideas and perspectives. These insights will undoubtedly shape my future research, and I’m excited to see where this inspiration will lead.
In 3 Words: Inspiring, Collaborative, Engaging
The conference was all about inspiration, connection, and learning. The experience not only motivated me but also provided a platform for valuable discussions and connections that I’m confident will have a lasting impact on my work.
Attending this conference has been a pivotal step in my career, and I’m looking forward to seeing how these experiences continue to influence my journey in research, rurality and innovation.
