Event: Engaged Scholarship for ECRs
Date: Wednesday 8th – Thursday 9th January 2025
Location: Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester
Are you a postgraduate researcher (PhD candidate) (PGR) or early career researcher (ECR) in the area of “innovation and research”?
Join us for a two-day mini conference to understand how to create theoretically rigorous, high quality, and impactful research.
This conference will bring together senior academics from the IRC network, editors from innovation and research journals and representatives of UKRI funding councils to work with you to develop your skills as PGR/ECR researchers, and your ideas for research projects.
At the IRC we are eager to develop the next generation of engaged scholars and enable them to provide actionable insights to the innovation & research ecosystem. This event aims to:
- Share the experience and knowledge of senior engaged academics with PGRs & ECRs with interests in Innovation & Research
- Encourage networking to form strong cohort bonds
- Promote the state of the art in scholarship for Innovation & Research
- Share the funders perspective of how to do engaged research
- Provide an understanding of the funding landscape for engaged work and the opportunities offered by UKRI and the funding councils for engaged research
This two-day in person event will include workshops with senior scholars about how to do engaged scholarship. There will also be panels with editors from innovation and research journals will discuss how to publish your research in their journals as well as a panel with senior colleagues from funding councils (UKRI, ESRC and Innovate UK) about how to make your research impactful for your audiences.
Spaces for this event are limited. We are therefore inviting expressions of interest via application form. As part of completion, we invite participants to submit a 250-word abstract about your research related to an engaged scholarship project in the areas of Innovation & Research. Please be clear in your abstract about what the implications of your research are for UKRI, ESRC and/or Innovate UK.
Deadline for applications is 22nd November 2024 and successful applicants will be contacted by 2nd December 2024.
From the successful applicants we will further select 6 PGRs/ECRs to present their research at the conference with an opportunity to win the following prizes:
- 6-month an editorial mentorship with the possibility of publication in International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation’s Fresh Research Perspective Notes
- 6-month mentorship with the IRC core team to develop an impact resource e.g. a short video, designed report or other resource, which shares key findings from their research
Abstracts will be chosen on the following criteria:
- Fit with Innovation and Research disciplines
- Clear outline of how your research is relevant for UKRI, ESRC, or Innovate UK
- Potential for impact
You can download the agenda for the conference here.
We are able to cover reasonable travel expenses for successful applicants to get to and from the event.
