R&I policies are powerful tools for fostering innovation and, ultimately, economic growth across countries.

This review aims to shed light on the evidence on Research and Innovation (R&I) policies and their effect on innovation and productivity, focusing on the manufacturing industry. Policymakers can develop a plethora of policy tools to boost firms’ innovation. Yet, the determinants of success can vary across sectors and technological strengths, making it quite challenging for policymakers to foster the most suitable kind of support for knowledge creation and diffusion.
