Emergence and Inclusivity of Regional Innovation Systems

This study revisits regional innovation systems (RIS) in semi-peripheral regions of the UK from an inclusivity perspective, examining barriers to dense innovation systems in the North of England, outside the UK’s core innovation-intensive regions in the Golden Triangle in the South of England, the inclusivity of existing RIS, and the regional contexts and systems that support and sustain inclusive innovations. The research is based on 50 semi-structured interviews with actors who have diverse and direct experiences of RIS in North West and North East England.
